How to deal with rejection.

December 19, 2017

Good morning, beautiful people. The general way to sum up rejection? It sucks. It feels horrible, it makes you cry, it makes you feel like my friend Norman looks here—angry, frustrated, all grrrrrr.

The spiritual view of rejection is very different.

Rejection can be seen as a detour sign on a road: You don’t want to go this way. “But I do!” you insist. “I wanted that job, that person, that opportunity, that thing!”

Okay, you wanted whatever it was—and the goal was fine. It’s just that the specific thing wasn’t quite right. And that something or someone better is coming.

If you think back to times you’ve been rejected, chances are you’ll see that you came to a better place as a result. Every time I’ve been let go or dumped or didn’t get what I thought I wanted, I got something better. Call it divine intervention, or that the rejection makes you all the more driven to succeed. It works either way.

Even if you still have regrets about a rejection, the feelings help to make us more compassionate toward others who get hurt. We can help others because we know exactly how they feel.

You’re a divine light, and you’re meant to shine. But you have to shine in the right direction to be most effective, successful, and happy. Not getting one thing means you’ll be sent to shine in a different way.

So keep the general goal, let that not-quite-right thing go, and open your arms and your heart to the better thing or person.

It’s not rejection; it’s redirection.

Keep that in mind the next time you get a detour sign, divine lights. Have a beautiful day.
