Good morning, beautiful people. Today I’m visiting my spiritual home, Integral Yoga New York City, to discuss big doings and dreams for the Yoga Mind book. It’s going to bring more peace and happiness into the world.
Painted on the walls of this tranquil place is this great reminder. It’s not just about keeping noise down for the people taking classes; it’s a tip for our own minds.
Each day, every hour, even every minute, there’s so much noise coming at us. I’m talking about the soundless noise of social media, news, screens everywhere (though not at this ashram). Noise that overwhelms our already too-active thoughts.
Quiet time—away from noise, away from screens—allows you to hear your own intuition. There’s a Yoga term for this: Pratyahara, meaning to withdraw the senses so you can experience some quiet. (I give instructions for this in Yoga Mind.) As the Sufi poet Rumi said, long before there were so many distractions, “There is a voice that doesn’t use words. Listen.”
Make sure you indulge in some quiet time today. You never know what guidance you’ll hear. Have a great day, divine lights.
